Cat Girl Lore
For millennia, the invader from beyond known as the Blade Of Minds has utilized a small island coast of Malthus as a isolated location for their experiments into the natural laws of reality and their possible applications. Creating new lifeforms, raising whole civilizations, only to wipe them out with the next experiment once they have served their purpose.
This history of isolated strife has left the isle a disjointed wasteland of anachronistic remnants left by the whims of a curious outer one. Fortunately, the Blade Of Minds appears, as far as can be discerned when predicting such an entity, to have moved their interests elsewhere. Having left the broken remains of their toys to themselves, their creations that survived have carved out a life in the ruins.
Most notably, for their nature as a stable sapient species, are the Cat Girls. Creatures created by the Blade Of Minds from Cats, Cat Girls share many of their predecessors characteristics. However, unlike the species they were based off, Cat Girls are humanoid.
Society: [think orcs in most fantasy settings, it’s all about survival and power]
Ecology: Like many artificially designed species, the ecology of Cat Girls is less a matter of practicality or evolutionary drivers than one of artistic choice. Having designed them with unknown motives or logic, the Blade Of Minds made their reproductive cycle counter, or at least adjacent, to their sexual instincts.
In Xaphan, they exclusively reproduce asexually, choosing to become pregnant without the need for a mate. Even so, they feel the instinctual desire for physical companionship, coupling with others of their own species despite it serving no biological benefit.
It is thought that this instinct may be designed to form social bonds, since the couple family unit observed in many species that sexually reproduce are common amongst Cat Girls. This is highly beneficial in the hostile environment of Xaphan, making partnered Cat Girls more likely to survive than their lone counterparts.
It is also suggested that this may be a hold over from other sapient species that may have been used in their design, or possibly evidence of an ecological role being intended for them other than that found in Nosbig. The fact that Cat Girls are capable of reproducing with humanoids from outside their native isle supports this idea.
Cat Girls borne outside their homeland, or traveling into the outer world, often show interest in humanoid males, to the same degree as females. As a result, many discover that they can become inseminated by other species capable of siring offspring, provided the Cat Girl allows it.
Appearance: Cat Girls have only a handful of obvious markers of their Cat origins, possessing ears and a tail reminiscent of a Cat’s, all be it proportional to their bodies, and subtle but deadly claws. Otherwise, they are purely humanoids.
Do to their lack of physical aging past early adulthood and naturally slender build, their physical strength is often underestimated by those unfamiliar with their species. This is a mistake, since their influence altered biology makes most abnormally strong.
In fact, Cat Girls do not increase in mass no matter how physically strong they become, making it hard to identify their physical strength by eye. This leads those who know how dangerous Cat Girls can be to assume any of them may be capable of breaking every bone in their body, not adjusting that opinion until they have personally seen a Cat Girl in combat.
Of course, most creatures outside of their native isle are not familiar with Cat Girls, the very few present in the greater outside world making their species an oddity. For such creatures, a Cat Girl’s frail appearance and involuntarily charming demeanor leads to a belief that they are fragile, innocent and inexperienced.
Such an assumption is almost always mistaken, and a source of confusion and annoyance for Cat Girls not familiar with the world outside of their native isle. The hostile and frequently violent nature of their native land makes those from the isle capable, and often more than willing, to correct these misconceptions with sometimes nonfatal violence.
